VOLUNTEERING

We are looking for volunteers who have a love of dogs,
own their own car, and have spare time available

You need to be confident and experienced to handle the dogs, some of which may be untrained, stressed and/or of a nervous disposition.

Sometimes you may be asked if you can collect a dog from a kennel/home and transport or take part in a relay to take the dog to a foster home for assessment prior to rehoming.

We may ask if you will complete a home visit to assess the suitability of an adopter to adopt one of our dogs.

We may ask if you are available to foster a dog/s – sometimes at short notice!

Who can Volunteer?

You must like dogs. However you don’t need to have been a transporter/homechecker/fosterer before, or require any special training.

Home checkers volunteer their time and transport to visit potential new owners in their homes to check the suitability of people and their situation. These volunteers need a car, be willing to travel and knowledgeable enough to assess potential homes, working to a criteria set out by Yorkshire Terrier & Toy breed Rescue.
You will be expected to complete a TYT&TBR checklist so that all homes may be assessed using the same criteria.  The Home checker will then send the report back to TYT&TBR for processing.
This is a great opportunity to contribute directly to the rehoming process and help not only the rescue, but also the dog.  Your assessment of the home will be used to decide if the potential adopter will go forward to the next stage in the selection process and is therefore a valued and important role.

Transporters are another vital link in the successful rescue of a dog.  You will be asked to volunteer your time and transport to collect dogs from kennels, pounds, and homes and take them to either a foster carer or to rescue headquarters in Lincolnshire.
Depending on the distance and your ability/wish to travel distances, you may be part of a relay, meeting another transporter in a place that will be arranged according to the need and wishes of all transporters on the relay.  This is a great opportunity to meet up with other TYT&TBR members and of course play a vital role in the rescue process.

Fosterers must have suitable accommodation and may need to have a spare room for dogs requiring special care and peace. You must be able to spend time with the animal and look after it and any other pets you have must be able to welcome the new member(s) to the household. You must be willing to be home checked.
